D.O. is an author and poet.

The son of big-tent evangelicals and country folk healers, he has spent his entire life immersed in the spirituality and magic of the human condition. His writing represents his lifelong passion for exploring the balance between our need for faith, family, and community and true self-expression.

D.O. lives in the Midwest, where he experiments with taming wild animals using string band instrumentation and roasting meats.

In 1989 on my twelfth birthday, I got a surprise visit from an uncle I had only ever heard about. My mother's younger brother was in the Army, deployed in Europe, a mythical figure to a young, rural midwestern kid like me.  I had grown up hearing and later, reading the letters he wrote my mother of his adventures. Larger than life, he showed up at my birthday party and spent the day with us. Just before he left he reached into the deep pocket of his jacket and pulled out a very worn, dog-eared copy of Stephen King's Eyes of the Dragon.

"Don't tell your mom you got that from me." That was all he said before he disappeared out the door and went back to wherever rarely seen childhood heroes went. Not only did that start my lifelong love of fiction, but it also validated for me that reading, just for pleasure, was something everyone should enjoy.

From that early love of reading came the desire to lend my voice to the multitude of amazing stories in the universe.
